Poverty continues to widen the education gap in the country, with a new baseline study linking rising absenteeism and school dropouts to families’ inability to pay school fees. A report by the Chalan Foundation, conducted across 10 counties, also highlights a growing digital divide, with the majority of learners reporting they have never used a computer. The study, carried out in 51 public schools, also reveals strained learning environments, where more than 60 learners share a classroom, far above the recommended 40 per class.
