The Rural and Urban Private Hospitals Association of Kenya (RUPHA) has sounded the alarm that private and faith-based hospitals may shut down by December if the government fails to clear billions in outstanding debts. According to RUPHA chairperson Brian Lishenga, hospitals are struggling to sustain operations due to Ksh33 billion owed by the defunct NHIF and an additional Ksh43 billion in shared liabilities. He warned that without immediate payment, the facilities could collapse, forcing Kenyans to rely solely on cash payments.
