Ripoti ya UNICEF na shirika la afya ulimwenguni zimedokeza kuwa mamilioni ya watoto duniani wapo katika hatari ya kuugua surua, mojawapo ya magonjwa ya kuambukiza na makali zaidi ya utotoni ambayo huchukua maisha ya mamia ya watoto duniani kila uchao. Mwaka jana pekee, watoto milioni 21.9 walikosa chanjo ya kawaida ya surua katika mwaka wao wa kwanza wa maisha na milioni 13.3 hawakupokea dozi yao ya pili, na kuwaweka watoto katika jamii zisizo na chanjo katika hatari ya mikurupuko.
