The SGR contract released by transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen after years of being shrouded in secrecy reveals that the deal gives sweeping powers to the Chinese lenders. The contract further states that arbitration of any dispute will be held in Beijing. The documents released however failed to lay bare information on the collateral placed in favour of the loan granted for the country’s most expensive project. The government could find itself at loggerheads with China for going against contractual agreements.
