Armed men attacked a military barracks and a prison in Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone on November 26th. Several current and former military officials were involved, raising the possibility that it was an attempted military coup. The country’s information minister called the attack “co-ordinated and planned” and there have been several military coups across western and central Africa in recent years, including in neighbouring Guinea. But was it a coup? BBC Africa’s Mayeni Jones reports on exactly what happened in the Sierra Leonean capital.
