A smart meter manufacturing factory has been launched in Athi River, Machakos county. The new facility by Chinese firm Chint Group, will specialize in producing a range of advanced smart meters. The factory will have a maximum production capacity of 200,000 meters per year and a highly efficient quick assembly line. It is also expected to have a localization rate of 30%-40% for its products, with plans to further increase this as the facility matures.
