Speakers of National Assembly and senate offer 30% pay cut

    Speakers of the two chambers of parliament and governors in 47 devolved units are the latest in the list of state and public officers who have taken a voluntary paycut, to avail resources for combating the coronavirus pandemic. They have surrendered 30% of their basic monthly pay, adding on to 80% by the president and his deputy, 30% for cabinet secretaries and 20% for principal secretaries. But the tax measures proposed by president uhuru kenyatta await resumption of parliamentary sittings, with the 350-member national assembly facing a logistical nightmare in enforcing the 1-metre social distancing guideline.
