The Salaries and Remuneration Commission has warned that counties are struggling with unsustainable wage bills, with only six counties currently meeting the legal threshold. SRC says it will work with county governments to reduce wage bills to the legal limit of 35 percent of county revenue. Speaking in Murang’a County, src chairperson Sammy Chepkwony described the wage burden as a major national challenge. Muranga governor Irungu Kang’ata opposed proposals to cut staff numbers, saying such measures would negatively affect many employees.
