A war of words is brewing between the Central Organization of Trade Union and the State Department of Housing over contentious provisions in the affordable housing regulations of 2024. COTU is accusing the state department of housing of drafting regulations that could divert billions of shillings in workers contributions to other development projects without proper consultations. In a quick rejoinder, Housing Principal Secretary Charles Hinga has dismissed the claims of lack of consultation, saying COTU is represented in the affordable housing board that drafted the regulations. This as he defended the inclusion of social and physical infrastructure as an integrated approach and not a plan to misuse the housing levy.
