Steeplechase legend Ben Jipcho laid to rest in Trans Nzoia

    Athletics legend Ben Jipcho who succumbed to cancer a week ago was laid to rest at his farm in Kisawai, Saboti in Trans Nzoia County today with Deputy President William Ruto attending the track star’s burial. Jipcho was one of Kenya's pioneering athletes who won a silver medal in the 3000m steeplechase at the 1972 Olympic Games. He bagged double gold at the African games in 1973 in the steeplechase and 5000 meter races. He also finished in the podium the following year at the commonwealth games clinching bronze in New Zealand. Veteran athletes who attended the ceremony led by Kipchoge Keino, Rose Tata Muya and Moses Kiptanui urged the government to have the welfare of retired athletes on its priority list.
