A Nairobi court has granted 300,000 shillings cash bail to a suspect prosecutors are linking to the mastermind of the Garissa University attack of 2015 in which 147 people were killed. Makadara Senior Principal Magistrate Agnes Mwangi ruled that the prosecution had failed to give compelling reasons to grant police more time to hold Yusuf Abdi, a Somali national longer. He had been charged with obtaining a Kenyan identity card pretending to be a Kenyan when he was not, he also faces other counts of forging an Identity card and being in the country illegally. The magistrate said the allegations against the accused including his citizenship had not been substantiated. The case will be mentioned on the 12th of next month.
