Katika miezi ya hivi karibuni, Biden amejaribu kurekebisha muonekano wake usiopendeza kwa umma katika kushughulikia suala la uhamiaji, kwanza kwa kuidhinisha pendekezo la Baraza la Seneti la vyama vyote viwili likiwa na baadhi ya masharti magumu katika kumbukumbu za karibuni na baadae, baada ya sheria ile kuvunjika, akichukua hatua za kiutendaji kuwadhibiti wahamiaji wanaoomba hifadhi upande wa kusini wa mpaka.
Lakini wakati Biden akijaribu kuhamasisha mafanikio aliyofikia, hasa kupungua kwa asilimia 40 ya idadi ya uvukaji kinyume cha sheria tangu agizo lake la mpaka kutekelezwa mwezi huu, Trump alieleza machachari ya kisiasa yakieleza ni kiza na balaa kuonyesha hali ya mpakani iliyovurugika chini ya uangalizi wa Biden.
Kwa mfano, Trump alitoa hoja kuwa wahamiaji wanaowasili kwenye mpaka wa Marekani wamekuja kutoka “hospitali za magonjwa ya akili” na “waomba hifadhi wendawazimu” – ambapo hajaweza kutoa ushahidi wowote. Pia alidai mpaka wa Marekani – Mexico (AP).
