The period between 1952 and 1960 marked the height of real conflict between Kenyans and their British colonial master. Within this time, Kenya was under a State of Emergency imposed by the British colonial government in order to launch a counter-insurgency campaign against the Mau Mau fighters who were unleashing attacks on the white settlers from the Aberdare and Mount Kenya forests. But when the guns finally went silent and freedom beckoned, the Government of Founding President Mzee Jomo Kenyatta established ties that would bind Kenya and Britain to date. Betty Kiptum now explores the ever growing relation between Kenya and her former colonial masters.
