Plans to adopt a new identification regime have gathered momentum following the launch of the training for civil registration officers. The rollout of the Unique Personal Identifier that is set for 1st March 2023 will ease the registration of births and deaths, and help clear backlogs at the registrar of persons. UPI will serve as the ID number on attaining 18 years, the registration number for National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF), National Social Security Fund (NSSF), and the Driving License Number.
