Is the world’s youngest nation on the brink of another war? - BBC Africa
The United Nations is warning South Sudan is on the brink of a return to full-scale civil war. The country is in crisis after government forces placed First Vice-President Riek Machar under house arrest. Mr. Machar's opposition party says a 2018 deal which ended South Sudan's internal conflict has effectively collapsed. Kenya's former prime minister, Raila Odinga, has arrived in South Sudan to help mediate. Relations between the two leaders have become increasingly strained in recent weeks. There has also been an escalation in armed confrontations.
