As the year draws to a close, Kenya’s education sector is preparing for a major milestone — the transition of Grade 9 learners into senior school, covering Grades 10 to 12. This marks the final phase of basic education under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC). Grade 9 represents the pioneer cohort of the CBC system, which was introduced in January 2017 as part of the government’s phased shift from the 40-year-old 8-4-4 system. With schools gearing up for the Grade 10 transition, several institutions have already made significant preparations. At Bunyore Girls National School in Vihiga County, readiness is clearly visible. The school is set to offer all three senior school pathways Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), Sports Science, and the Arts underscoring its commitment to the successful rollout of the new curriculum phase.
