Absa Bank Kenya has appointed Yusuf Omari as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, two months after the exit of Abdi Mohammed, who resigned to join I&M Group. Omari’s confirmation comes two months after he was appointed in an acting capacity. His tenure begins immediately following receipt of all required regulatory and internal approvals. In the announcement, which came after markets closed on Thursday, September 10, 2026, the bank described Omari as a seasoned banking executive with more than two decades of leadership experience spanning finance, treasury, risk management, governance, sustainability, strategy and transformation, as well as executive management. In a statement, the bank expressed confidence in his experience and leadership, which it is banking on to help advance its strategic priorities in Kenya while delivering sustained value to customers, clients and other stakeholders. Omari previously served as the bank’s Chief Financial Officer since 2009. He holds a degree in economics and a Master of Business Administration and is a Fellow of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya, FCPA. He is also a graduate of the Advanced Management Programme delivered by Strathmore and IESE Business School.
