Hundreds of Burundian nationals living in Kenya have flocked to the Burundi Embassy in Nairobi, seeking documentation amid uncertainty over their stay in the country.
A spot check by Citizen TV found hundreds of Burundians at the embassy along Dennis Pritt Road on Monday morning.
Some were also seen queuing at nearby cyber cafés, carrying identification cards, passports and other documents as they sought to process the paperwork required for their return to Burundi.
Others told Citizen TV they had been asked to obtain the necessary documentation to facilitate their travel back home.
The rush for documentation comes amid heightened anxiety among foreign small-scale traders in Kenya, following President William Ruto’s directive targeting foreigners operating businesses illegally in the country.
