The mother of Cape Verde's veteran goalkeeper Vozinha has arrived in the country's capital, Praia, to prepare for her trip to the United States. Ana Cândida Évora left her hometown of São Vicente on Wednesday night, accompanied by a lawmaker representing her district. The BBC understands Ms. Évora may fly to the U.S. between Friday and Saturday, ahead of Sunday's clash between Cape Verde and Uruguay in Miami. “I’m happy,” she told the BBC, expressing hope that everything will go smoothly. “I’m taking a special energy to the Cape Verdeans there. We’re going to fight and shine on that pitch”, she added. At the airport in São Vicente, she hugged family members and loved ones before heading to Praia. #vozinha #vozinha'smum #capeverde #capeverdefootball #capeverdeislands #worldcup #worldcup2026 #Fifaworldcup #africa #football Subscribe: http://bit.ly/subscribetoafrica Website: https://www.bbc.com/africa Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/bbcnewsafrica/ Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/bbcafrica/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/bbcafrica/
