The Law Society of Kenya has vowed to challenge a High Court order issued in Nakuru barring public entities from hiring private legal practitioners. In a statement on Monday, LSK President Faith Odhiambo said conservatory orders deprive advocates nationwide of the opportunity to serve the public and are against their economic rights. The orders arose from a petition filed by nakuru based surgeon Dr Magare Gikenyi, Senator Okiya Omtatah Okoiti, and others against the Council of Governors, the Attorney General, and more than 70 public entities. The Court directed the Controller of Budget not to approve any public funds for external legal services, including payments to private advocates and law firms, until the matter is heard.
