Doctors back Duale’s ban on foreign license renewals

The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union has thrown its weight behind a directive by Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale banning the renewal of licences for foreign doctors, accusing private and mission hospitals of exploiting both foreign and local doctors for cheap labour. The directive halted with immediate effect, the licensing of foreign doctors, unless they can establish that their expertise is not available locally. The Union now wants an audit of licences and work permits in the shortest time possible.
