A nine-billion-shilling compensation battle has pitted more than 400 former Kenya Air Force members who served during the 1982 coup attempt against the government. The veterans, backed by Safina Party leader Jimmy Wanjigi, are demanding immediate payment of their compensation and the arrest of Defence PS Patrick Mariru, whom they accuse of disobeying court orders directing the government to compensate them. They accuse successive regimes, including the Ruto administration, of ignoring the court orders, leaving them to battle poverty decades after their service. Willy Lusige reports.
