Government cuts fertiliser price to KSh 2,000, subsidises maize seed

The government has cut the price of subsidised fertiliser to 2,000 shillings per 50-kilogram bag, from 2,500 shillings, and introduced a 50 percent subsidy on certified maize seed. The additional support is aimed at lowering planting costs for farmers affected by drought, with the maize seed subsidy alone expected to cost the government about 6 billion shillings.
