Government to roll out KJET programme to support small businesses

The government will roll out the Kenya Jobs for Economic Transformation, KJET, programme next month to support thousands of micro and small enterprises across the country. The programme will help businesses acquire common-user equipment for value addition and small-scale manufacturing at the local level. Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, who was briefed on preparations for the project at his Karen official residence, said clusters of micro and small enterprises will be selected equitably from every county, constituency and ward. The enterprises will receive common-user equipment through matching grants covering 50 percent of the cost, with the grants being non-repayable. The support will be disbursed in three cohorts in October, November and January.
