Former Kenya Pipeline Managing Director Joe Sang will take on the Sydney Marathon challenge next week, seeking to complete his third race in the World Marathon Majors series and help raise funds for the education of children in need across the country.
Through the Joe Sang Foundation, his efforts have already borne fruit, with ten children receiving scholarships.
The foundation has also constructed a classroom at a school in Kitui County, which will be officially launched next month as schools reopen.
Sang made his World Marathon Majors debut at the 2024 Chicago Marathon, clocking three hours and seven minutes.
Last year, he completed the Berlin Marathon just seconds shy of breaking the three-hour barrier, clocking three hours and 57 seconds.
Elite athletes set to compete at the Sydney Marathon include world marathon champion and Olympic gold medallist Peres Jepchirchir, 2018 London Marathon champion Vivian Cheruiyot and Tanzania’s world marathon champion Alphonce Simbu.
