The government has begun preparations to take 500 small businesses to this year’s East African Community MSME Trade Fair in Rwanda, as it seeks to expand markets for locally made products.
A multi-sectoral technical committee has been formed to coordinate Kenya’s participation, including the selection and facilitation of exhibitors, logistics and the movement of goods ahead of the November event.
All 47 counties will be represented, with at least five exhibitors from each county. Some participants will also be drawn from the NYOTA programme.
The government says it has allocated 200 million shillings to support the exhibitors.
The Ministry of Cooperatives and MSMEs says the initiative aims to increase the adoption of digital tools among small businesses and ease the movement of Kenyan goods across East African borders.
