Kenya thrash Zambia 3-0 in African women’s volleyball opener

The 2026 CAVB Women’s African Nations Volleyball Championship got underway on Tuesday in Nairobi, with no major upsets recorded in matches played at the Kasarani Indoor Gymnasium and Ulinzi Sports Complex. Hosts Kenya started their Group A campaign with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Zambia. Kenya dominated from the start, winning the first set 25-14 before cruising to a 25-9 victory in the second. The hosts completed the sweep with a 25-11 win in the third set. Uganda also made a winning start with a 3-0 victory over Senegal, while the Democratic Republic of Congo defeated Burundi by a similar scoreline. Former African champions Egypt sent a strong statement with a 3-0 win over Burkina Faso, as Rwanda also swept Algeria 3-0. The championship offers a double opportunity, with the winner securing qualification for the Los Angeles Olympic Games, while the top three teams will earn tickets to the World Championships.
