Tea farmers in Kericho County are hopeful of accessing affordable fertilizer after Kenya Tea Development Agency Chairman Enos Njeru announced the arrival of a new consignment from China. Speaking during a ceremony to conclude training for farmers from Kapkatet Tea Factory and Tebesonik in Cheplanget, Njeru said 30 million tonnes of fertiliser arrived at the Port of Mombasa on Thursday, with two more ships carrying 60 million tonnes expected this month. Njeru noted that the fertiliser will reduce production costs and increase earnings. As this happened, it was revealed, the research institute has developed new tea seedling production techniques to help farmers achieve better-quality yields, this will go a long way in cushioning farmers in the industry.
