Deputy President Kithure Kindiki presided over the Intergovernmental Budget and Economic Council meeting that brought together national and county officials for strategic discussions on budget planning and financial coordination.
Kindiki told governors to speed up efforts to clear legitimate pending bills amid concerns that accumulated debts are hurting service delivery and businesses that depend on government contracts. Kindiki says counties must maintain momentum in verifying, prioritising and settling outstanding debts, adding that county governments must work closely with the National Treasury to ascertain legitimate pending bills. Also present in the meeting was Treasury CS John Mbadi and his Health counterpart Aden Duale.
