Kindiki urges Kenyans to heed safety directives ahead of El Niño rains

Deputy President Professor Kithure Kindiki is asking Kenyans to work with security and disaster management officers and heed their directives to avert loss of lives during the projected El Niño rains. Kindiki says the government has put in place measures to cushion Kenyans from the effects of the adverse weather, and has urged all counties to prioritise preparations at the local level. These include unclogging drainage systems and disseminating critical safety information to citizens at the grassroots. The Deputy President spoke after chairing a meeting involving eight county governors and senior government officials. The meeting also tackled the issue of County Aggregated Industrial Parks, with Kindiki saying eight parks will be commissioned by the end of this year in Meru, Embu, Kirinyaga, Kisii, Busia, Migori, Garissa and Wajir counties.
