Senior and junior secondary school teachers in Samburu County have threatened to go on strike as the second term of the 2026 academic year begins this week. They cite the removal of the county from the list of hardship counties and placement in the medium level of hardship as a key reason. Led by Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Secretary General of Samburu County branch, Peter Letipila, the tutors described the region as a difficult area due to insecurity, poaching and poor infrastructure.
