Maraga releases police reforms report, calls for independent police service

United Green Movement Party leader David Maraga has made good his threat to President William Ruto and released the long-awaited task force report on police reforms. Speaking to the media at the party headquarters in Nairobi, Maraga called for an independent National Police Service, free from political interference. He said police reforms must go beyond new uniforms, with urgent changes needed in the recruitment of top police commanders. Maraga had given President William Ruto seven days to make the report public, warning that he would release it if the president failed to do so.
