Mbadi calls for demand-driven borrowing to curb unnecessary debt costs

Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi is calling for demand-driven borrowing, saying Kenya has been taking on debt without first assessing whether the country needs the funds. Mbadi says this has resulted in unnecessary commitment fees that could have been put to better use, including creating more jobs. He has also called on development partners to strengthen existing systems that work rather than developing new ones.
