Nairobi County and the Kenya Defence Forces emerged winners of the third leg of the National Boxing League for women and men after three days of action at Mumboha Stadium in Luanda, Vihiga County.
Boxing Kenya Federation set up an outdoor boxing ring at the football stadium, with the bouts attracting a sizable crowd.
On the ladies’ side, Nairobi County collected seven points, followed by the Kenya Defence Forces and Kenya Police, both on five points.
On the men’s side, the Kenya Defence Forces dominated with 23 points, 11 points ahead of Kenya Police, who collected 12 points.
In some of the finals, Lencer Akinyi of Nairobi beat Veronica Mbithe of KDF 5-0 in the women’s 51-kilogram category.
Amina Martha, who represented Kenya at the Commonwealth Games, made light work of Mary Anyango of Nairobi in the women’s 54-kilogram category.
On the men’s side, Eustus Wanjau of G44 was saved by the referee in a bout against Chris Juma of Kasarani Youth.
The fourth and final leg of the league will be held in Kisumu and Nanyuki.
