Nurses call off five-week strike after deal with governors

Nurses have called off their five-week strike following a return-to-work agreement with the Council of Governors. The governors, who had earlier termed the nurses’ demands unimplementable and said the agreement was signed under duress, have now committed to resolving the core issues at the heart of the dispute. These include risk and uniform allowances, which will be backdated to 1st July 2025. The agreement comes days after doctors threatened to down their tools if the nurses’ strike was not resolved, warning that the prolonged absence of nurses had placed an additional burden on other health workers. The two sides have agreed to resolve the remaining grievances within 45 days. Mary Muoki reports.
