The National Police Service has warned political leaders and youth engaging in political violence against it, promising they will be dealt with.
Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat says the service is undergoing an overhaul, including the arrival of thousands of new officers, who are set to graduate on Friday, as it seeks to improve service delivery and address security gaps.
Lagat spoke during a high-level security meeting in Nairobi, with senior security officials from the Nairobi region. The meeting's main objective is to reclaim Nairobi's streets from criminal elements, and addressing officers' welfare to boost morale.
D.I.G Lagat announced that robust mechanisms are in place, to dismantle gangs and political goons, warning politicians to stop weaponising the youth.
The service is preparing to receive ten thousand new officers this Friday, who are expected to help reinforce the frontline.
