Regional leaders mourn Samia’s husband Hafidh Ameir Hassan

Regional leaders have joined Tanzanians in mourning President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s husband, Hafidh Ameir Hassan, who died today. President William Ruto led Kenyans in mourning Mzee Ameir, describing him as a beloved father to their children and a distinguished son of Tanzania. Rwandan President Paul Kagame also expressed solidarity with Tanzanians as they mourned Mzee Ameir and reflected on his life and legacy. Hafidh Ameir Hassan was buried after Asr prayers in Kizimkazi, Zanzibar. The death announcement was made by Vice President Deogratius Ndejembi, who said Ameir died at 8 a.m. at Emilio Mzena Memorial Hospital in Zanzibar, where he was receiving treatment for a heart condition. Mining Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho attended the burial.
