The national men’s volleyball team, Wafalme, have shifted their training base to Kasarani with less than a week of preparation before they head to Tunisia. Tunisia will host the Africa Championship, with the winner qualifying for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games, while the top three teams will advance to the World Championship. Head coach Gideon Tarus hopes to be third time lucky at the Africa Championship. In 2021 and 2023, Wafalme finished ninth after encountering challenges in the pool matches. This time around, the coach says he has worked on all areas of the game, with emphasis on backcourt defence, reception and blocks. Tarus says his game plan will be tailored to the opponents Wafalme face in different matches. The Africa Championship will feature a round of 16 this time, giving teams a greater chance of advancing to the podium positions.
