Human rights defenders in Migori County want the government to tighten legislation around cross-border Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) to deter perpetrators of the act. The Director of the Migori Community Traditional Negative Practices Mitigation Organization, Benta Adhiambo, (MICONTRAP) the porous borders and deeply rooted cultural practices have continued to fuel the harmful practice. They also called for increased efforts to sensitise the communities on the dangers of FGM.
