Parliament vets President Ruto’s IEBC nominees

Questions on perceived closeness between some of the nominated IEBC commissioners and top government officials dominated the vetting exercise by the national assembly justice and legal affairs committee. Nominated IEBC chairman Erastus Ethekon had a hard time assuring the committee that his previous working relationship with former Turkana governor and state house deputy chief of staff Josphat Nanok will not influence his decision if he takes over as IEBC boss. Hassan Noor Hassan another nominee who admitted to be National Assembly Minority Junet Mohamed's brother in law was also at pains after questions were raised on his inclusion in the interview at the last minute.
