The Ogiek community on Wednesday won a landmark reparations ruling against the government of Kenya at the African Court on Human and Peoples' Rights. The Arusha based Court ordered the government to pay compensation for material and moral damages, grant collective land title to the Ogiek community, and formally recognize them as an indigenous people. The ruling also mandates government to respect the Ogiek's rights to consultation and non-repetition of violations.
