Counties will receive 415 billion shillings in equitable share for the 2025/26 financial year after Members of Parliament and senators reached a consensus. The agreed funding marks a Sh27.6 billion increase from the Sh387.4 billion disbursed in the 2024/25 financial year. It is also Sh10 billion more than the National Treasury’s initial proposal of Sh405.1 billion. A mediation committee composed of members from the two houses struck a deal after four days of intense negotiations.
