A convoy of Opposition leaders came under attack in Chwele Market, Bungoma County, after being waylaid by goons on their way to Kitale from Bungoma Town. The attackers, armed with stones and crude weapons, shattered vehicle windows and disrupted the convoy. The politicians were whisked to safety as a standoff erupted between their supporters and the assailants on the busy highway. The leaders have strongly condemned the incident, accusing National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula of orchestrating the violence in his home turf to frustrate their political activities.
