'It's a lifesaver': Making solar power affordable in South Africa - BBC Africa
For years rich South Africans have been installing boreholes for water and solar power systems to keep their households going amidst rolling power blackouts and loadshedding - the regular daily scheduled outages that have been blighting SA's supply for years.
Now companies have emerged that are introducing pay-as-you-go solar systems, to allow poorer households in the townships to also get power. This is allowing informal and small scale businesses to keep going despite the previously crippling power shortages.
