    A section of MPs from the North Eastern region now wants the president to declare the ongoing drought a national disaster to prompt enhanced efforts to save starving lives and livestock. The lawmakers who addressed the press at the parliament said at least 2.1 million Kenyans are facing food insecurity. The lawmakers also want the government to revisit livestock-oriented policies, including an immediate offtake program to salvage the livelihoods of the pastoralists.
