A consortium of civil society groups is raising concerns over what they have termed the shrinking democratic space in the East African region. In a new report on the state of civic freedoms in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, launched in Nairobi on Tuesday, the organizations claimed that the Countries continue to record increased repression driven by policy changes and misuse of law. Speaking during the launch of the report, People's Liberation Party leader Martha Karua faulted regional governments' normalizing repression and shrinking fundamental freedoms.
