Gachagua rally attacked by rival groups ahead of Nyeri visit

Tension gripped Nyeri town for the better part of the day as armed goons took over the streets ahead of a political rally by DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua. Youths armed with rungus forced traders to close their businesses amid fears of looting. Rival groups briefly clashed, with Gachagua’s supporters facing off against his opponents. What threatened to turn into a bloodbath was averted when the rival group withdrew minutes before Gachagua’s arrival, allowing the rally to proceed. Addressing the gathering, Gachagua accused local leaders allied to the Kenya Kwanza administration of organising goons to disrupt his meeting.
