The Kenya Meteorological Department is warning that more counties are likely to slide into the alarm phase as the drought situation continues to ravage most parts of the country. Nine counties in the north are already in the red phase, with 13 counties in the alert phase, and thousands of people are facing starvation. Director General Edward Kariuki says many counties recorded below average rainfall, with the hardest hit regions being the arid and semi-arid lands.
