    Makarem and Ikram's lives changed a year ago when their school in Sudan was shelled. The twin sisters' classmates and teacher were killed in the attack, but they are determined to complete their studies. Makarem still has shrapnel in her head following the shelling in August 2024. Yet despite this, she's studying with the goal of being accepted onto a medicine degree while Ikram is at university learning English.
