Former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi alias Sonko has defended himself in a 20 million shillings land graft case, informing the court that the charges against him dating back to 2015 stem from his public opposition to corruption and land grabbing. ;Appearing before anti-corruption trial Magistrate Charles Ondieki to give his evidence, Sonko claimed some powerful individuals with interests targeted him to taint his name by conspiring with grabbers to give fictitious land rates and claims. The case involves a property situated in Kilimani. Sonko was in the spotlight early last year following a High Court decision that overturned his earlier acquittal, with the court ruling that the Director of Public Prosecutions had established a prima facie case. The hearing continues from 22nd June for 7 days where he is scheduled to continue with his testimony in the case.
